Annie Wilson is a Philadelphia-based choreographer, performer, and death doula. Her dances focus on the experience, rather than the appearance, of the body. She is a Pew Fellow in the Arts and an Independence Fellow. Her work has been presented around the world. She first discovered keening when she developed her piece At Home with the Humorless Bastard. She has spent the past 8 years learning about, developing, and refining her “keening” practice– a grieving practice that pays honor to the traditional ritual practice of keening while incorporating elements of vocal improvisation, dance, and somatics. She is also the founder and director of the Philadelphia Death and Arts Festival, a biennial festival bringing together artists and professionals working in end of life care in order to transform the culture of dying from its current structure to one that is person-centered, community-oriented, and care-based. www.theanniewilson.com // www.philadelphiadeathandarts.com
